5 Tips for Exercising in Hot Weather

Keeping up with an exercise routine in the hot weather isn’t easy. You have to be aware of when exercising is safe and when it should be avoided. Fortunately, there are lots of ways you can safely exercise in the hot weather. Here are some tips for how to get exercise right in the Summer months.

Your Clothing

When it’s warm outside, you don’t want to wear anything that’s too heavy. You should wear clothing and footwear that’s breathable. Instead of wearing jogging bottoms, switch to shorts. And, many women exercise in only a sports bra on their top half if the temperature is high. If you’re exercising outdoors, make sure to wear a hat and sports sunglasses to keep the sun off your head and out of your eyes.

Time of Day

If you’re into jogging, running, cycling or anything else that’s done in the outdoors, consider what time of day you’re doing your exercise. The hottest time of the day is midday to early afternoon, so it isn’t sensible to exercise outdoors during that time. You may want to switch your daily routine to exercising in the early morning or early evening. That way, you can avoid the sun when it’s at its strongest.


Avoid Hot Showers

It’s unlikely you’ll want a hot shower on a hot day anyway, but some people believe that hot showers help ease muscle pain. Don’t be tempted to have a hot shower when the temperatures are soaring. Instead, try taking a cold shower before doing a workout. If you leave your hair wet, it’s great way of cooling you down as you work out. You may need another shower when you’re finished, but your first cool shower will surely make your exercise much easier.

Do Something Cool

There are exercise options that will keep you cool while you’re working out. For example, why not try swimming outdoors. A few lengths will not only ensure you’ve done your cardio and strengthening exercises, it will also be a refreshing cool off on a hot day. If you’re looking into bulking up, read this. You could also try cycling. It’s great for your legs and you get to catch a nice cool breeze as you do it.


Go Indoors

There are some days where you just can’t cool down, no matter what you do. If you still want to exercise on those days, it’s best to stay indoors. Make the most of air conditioning and sign up to a gym. You’ll still be able to do everything you would normally do outside, but it won’t be as dangerous as it is in the heat. Exercising indoors can lead to good advice from professionals, new friends and all the essentials you would need for a successful workout.

Don’t give up on your workout routine when the sun is out. The key to getting the most out of your exercise is consistency, so make sure you don’t drop it because the temperature is higher. Find ways of exercising that suit you.
